As Tecnam is closing in on certification of
it’s 11-seat multipurpose P2012 Traveller high-wing airplane, the company
scored a big win last week as Cape Air committed to an order for 100
Travellers. The east coast commuter airline plans to put the first 20 P2012s in
operation beginning in early 2019.
“What we asked of Tecnam
was not easy, but they gave us a real solution for our future needs in a
changing industry,” said Cape Air’s CEO Dan Wolf. “We are now able to offer our
passengers a modern and stylish twin-engine aircraft ideal for small community air
service in the U.S. and abroad.”
The Traveller is powered
by two 375-hp Lycoming piston engines, providing low operating costs for
regional flights. The airplane can also be configured for cargo deliveries,
skydiving operations, medevac and VIP transport, to name a few. The P2012 can
also be configured as an amphibian. A Garmin G1000 NXi panel provides the
latest in avionics technology, with moving maps, on-screen instrument charts,
updated weather data, traffic alerts and much more.
Since its first flight in
July of 2016, the P2012 prototype has accumulated more than 250 flight test
hours. EASA and FAA certification are expected next year.
