Two British tourists have been rescued from the desert in
the United Arab Emirates after their quad bikes caught on fire.
The Britons were riding through the Al Badayer desert in
Sharjah, outside Dubai, as part of an organised tour when they had to be
rescued.
The Ministry of Interior's Air Wing Department sent a
patrol helicopter into the desert to save the injured tourists.
The date of the rescue is unclear, but it is believed
it took place this weekend.
Colonel pilot Salim Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Deputy
Director of the Air Wing Department at the MoI, said his crew was notified about
the incident by an ambulance crew at the scene.
'The air wing arrived at the scene to help provide
first aid to the injured, and the two British nationals who received burns were
transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah quickly,' he told Gulf News.
