Fiji Airways has broken ground on a new $45 million aviation
training facility that will house two simulators and also provide ab initio
training.
The Fiji Aviation Academy is based in
Nadi and expected to open in 2019. It will house the airline’s Boeing 737 Max 8
and Airbus A330 simulators that have been ordered from CAE, and will expand
into full ab initio training later on.
Besides training pilots for Fiji
Airways, the centre will cater to third parties, especially with the
simulators. The airline adds that it has allocated space for a third simulator
bay for future expansion opportunities.
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows
that Fiji Airways operates a fleet of five Boeing 737NGs and four
A330s. It has also signed a tentative order for five 737 Max 8s, scheduled for
delivery in 2018 and 2019.
