Airbus to discuss workforce impact from A380 rate cut

Airbus is preparing to meet with employee representatives this week to discuss the impact on its workforce from intended cuts to the A380 production rate.

The discussions will also focus on similar effects from reduced output on its military A400M programme.

Airbus says the meeting with the European Works Council will take place on 7 March.

The airframer has already stated that it plans to deliver 12 A380s this year – compared with 15 last year – and reduce the production to just eight in 2019.

It had also recently signalled that it could potentially trim annual output to just six aircraft.

Airbus has not detailed the implications for the workforce and says such information will only be disclosed after it has discussed the matter with employees.

It says this process has been "disturbed" by leaks to the media and "excessive" reporting over alleged job cuts across its four home nations – France, Germany, the UK and Spain.

"Airbus is committed to managing any social implications in a responsible manner and has demonstrated its ability to find the best possible solutions for its workforce on various occasions in the past," it adds.
