Israel may be erring towards the Boeing CH-47 Chinook after the
country's army said it preferred the tandem-rotor helicopter for an emerging
requirement for heavy-lift rotorcraft.
The nation is looking to replace its current fleet
of aged Sikorsky CH-53 Yasur helicopters from the late 2020s.
Although operated by the air force, the helicopters
are used to transport troops from the Israeli ground forces, which have
indicated a preference for the CH-47.
Israel is also considering the much larger CH-53K,
currently being developed for the US Marine Corps, for the requirement.
